Seizures
Often seizures occur suddenly, affecting a person’s movements, awareness and level of consciousness. Caused by surges in brain activity, seizures can cause serious harm and are an unpleasant symptom of epilepsy.
Seizures can occur as a result of surges in electrical activity in the brain, typically caused by epilepsy. During a seizure changes in movement, feelings, consciousness and behaviour can occur and there are serious long term effects associated with repeated seizures including permanent brain damage. Seizures can be categorised into focal onset, generalised onset and unknown onset seizures depending on the movements and lack of awareness they cause, as well as how the seizure began.
